Health is a balance of body, mind and spirit.

Hippocrates said, "Let food be thy medicine," and I agree that diet can be either healing or harmful to our health. Yet our diet is not the only factor in wellness. Even a healthy, well balanced diet can't compete with high levels of stress, poor sleep, and/or environmental toxins. Let's work on our body, mind and spirit to achieve permanent remission.

A Morning Ritual for Health

I keep reading about successful CEO’s and thought leaders having morning health rituals. Interestingly, most include some form of meditation and exercise. I developed a morning health ritual during my treatment and recovery from two back-to-back cancers that I felt was rather elaborate but necessary at the time. I let it slip as I got […]

Chili Lime Shrimp

I love shrimp—grilled on kabobs, as scampi with lots of garlic, and the chili lime recipe below. And I’m not the only one—shrimp is quickly becoming our most popular seafood here in the U.S., accounting for 30% of all seafood sold. But like most food these days, you must know your source in the case […]

How to deal with Stress, Fear and Anxiety

Stress seems to be rampant these days. I know several people right now who are unfortunately dealing with big stuff. When faced with life’s big challenges, fear can take hold, leaving us immobile to make any decisions whatsoever. Unanswerable questions arise as we try to navigate unchartered waters. All of the “what ifs” run an endless […]

Should you take Vitamin D?

Due to sunscreen use and staying indoors on computers, it is estimated that 70% of people in the U.S. are deficient in Vitamin D. Vitamin D, known as the sunshine vitamin, plays a vital role throughout our body. It builds bones and muscles, helps our immune system, and the lack of it has been connected to cardiovascular […]

Healthy Valentine’s Day Desserts

Valentine’s Day is all about chocolate for my husband and me. Yes, I usually get him roses (because I love roses and he doesn’t buy them for me!) and he usually gets me a beautiful orchid (because they last way longer than cut roses!) Three reasons: Very kid-friendly, super easy to make, and they taste like my favorite cookie all rolled up in a dairy-free, gluten free little ball of yumminess. I went to high school in Eugene, Oregon and there was a bagel shop on the walk home from school—The Humble […]

My 7 Rules of Clean Eating

You may have seen that I’m promoting a 14-day Clean Eating Winter Reboot. So what do I mean by “clean eating” exactly? Is it clean like no pesticides? Or clean like unprocessed? Clean like non-toxic? Well yes, it is those things and a lot more! I’ve organized this clean approach to eating and living into seven […]

The 14 Day Winter Reboot is here!

I have to be honest with you. I gained 10 pounds and went up a pant size a year and a half ago with the breast cancer chemo and I really want it off. Problem is that I am also discovering how completely unwilling a suddenly (from the chemo) post-menopausal body is to shed weight. So I […]
